The mining company LKAB mines iron ore at Kiruna and Malmberget in northern Sweden. The company produced over 26,9 million tonnes of iron ore in 2016 and is Europe´s largest iron ore producer.
As a way to improve safety and increase their producitivy, LKAB has established an internal certification "Bergförstärkning med sprutbetong inom LKAB" for their shotcrete operators. The certification is issued after operators passing a 3-day long course including theory, lab tests and simulator tests, run by Edvirt.
Kent Nilsson at Training LKAB states that the reason they have established the certification is that "we need to become more competitive when running the spraying ourselves, increase the knowledge of our employees and become more cost effective".
